After Aaftab ‘confession’ in lie test, cops to follow up with narco analysis today | India News

NEW DELHI: During his polygraph test at the forensic lab in northwest Delhi’s Rohini, Aaftab Poonawala reportedly confessed to killing his live-in partner Shraddha Walkar and dismembering her body. Armed with findings of the lie detector test, forensic officials will now conduct a narco analysis at a hospital on Thursday.
Sources in the Forensic Sciences Laboratory, Rohini, said that that Aaftab told the experts that he had murdered Shraddha and got rid of her body over some time. He, however, didn’t identify the exact places where he threw the pieces of her body.
For the narco test, unlike the polygraph or lie test, which doesn’t require the subject to be administered any drug, Aaftab will be given sodium pentothal or sodium amytal to induce a hypnotic or sedated state in which his imagination will be neutralised and experts will try and make him divulge information about the murder.
“We have been told not to give him food after 10pm on Wednesday,” a prison official said. “Narco analysis can only be done on an empty stomach.” Tihar Jail sources added that Aaftab would leave the prison complex early on Thursday to reach the hospital at 9am. The investigating team rehearsed the process with forensic officials and doctors on Wednesday and have readied a fresh questionnaire based on the polygraph findings.
“There were several questions to which we found him hesitant to answer in the polygraph test. Those questions will be repeated in the narco sessions,” said a police source.
The special investigating team has now recorded the statement of the woman who was given a ring belonging to Shraddha by Aaftab. The woman, a psychologist, began interacting with Aaftab at May-end via a dating application. She visited the Chhatarpur flat, site of the alleged murder, twice in October.
In her statement to the police, the woman said Aaftab appeared normal and happy when they met at his flat. The statement of the woman has been recorded under Section 161 of the CrPc regarding examination of witnesses by police.
The woman told police that she was stunned to know that she had been in the same house where Shraddha’s body parts were hidden in the refrigerator. Other women who too visited the accused’s residence or were in touch with him after the murder are being raced. A source said he spoke to around a dozen women.
In her statement, the woman told police that they had met on May 30 and kept in touch for around a month but hadn’t interacted or conversed again after that. A police insider said, “The woman revealed that Aaftab had several perfumes and deodorants in his house and had gifted her a bottle too. She said he smoked constantly though he said he wanted to quit smoking.” The woman added that Aaftab had spoken about going to Mumbai in September and often talked about his house in Mumbai.
Apart from this, the woman stated that Aaftab was a foodie and ordered food from various places. He also told her about his experiences of visiting different restaurants and his love for plating his food in an aesthetic manner.
