Bridge collapse: PM Modi speaks to Gujarat CM Patel, announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for bereaved families | India News


NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Gujarat chief minister Bhupendra Patel for a briefing on the bridge collapse in Morbi district that has left at least 60 people dead.
The Prime Minister’s Office said in a tweet that Modi sought urgent mobilisation of teams for rescue ops during his call with Patel.

The prime minister also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the next of the kin of the dead.

President Droupadi Murmu also tweeted to say her thoughts and prayers are with the affected people.

Union home minister Amit Shah spoke to Gujarat home minister Harsh Sanghavi and other officials regarding the accident.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh also expressed condolences for the bereaved families.

Newly elected Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge expressed sadness over the accident and instructed his party workers to extend all possible help in relief and rescue.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted to say his prayers are with the ones affected.
