Court directs Twitter to block accounts of Congress, Bharat Jodo Yatra over ‘unauthorised use’ of KGF-2 music | India News
The complaint was filed by MRT music and FIR was lodged against Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh and Supriya Shrinate at Yeshwanthpur Police Station.
The complaint alleged that the party had posted two videos during the Bharat Jodo Yatra with songs from the movie without permission in violation of the Copyright Act.
M Naveen Kumar, a business partner of MRT Music, said the Congress had “copied the songs without our permission and used them in their videos for marketing purposes. They portrayed it as if it was their own.”
“The aforementioned unlawful actions of the accused amount to an offence under section 63 of the Copyrights Act. It is also a serious offence amounting to making a false electronic record with the intention to project the same as genuine and thereby cheating the public at large,” the complaint said.
A legal expert said: “Two types of violations have happened. One, they have illegally copied and reproduced the songs in a video. Secondly, the songs are used to market Congress as well as Rahul Gandhi.”
