Gujarat assembly elections: Election Commission to announce dates today | Gujarat Election News

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission is all set to declare the schedule for the upcoming Gujarat assembly elections at 12 noon today.
The EC has convened a press conference to announce the schedule.
There are a total of 182 assembly seats in Gujarat and 92 is needed for a simple majority.
Will it be a single or two-phase assembly elections in Gujarat? If the EC decides to go by the last time precedent, then it should be a 2-phase election.
However, the counting of votes is likely to take place on December 8, along with Himachal Pradesh results.
In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP has won 99 out of 182 total seats in the assembly. Congress was triumphant on 79 seats, with others winning on 4 seats. Though Congress lost the elections but still it managed to win the highest number of seats in over 30 years.
The BJP, despite a resurgent Congress, was able to increase its vote share by a slight margin. This is appreciable because the party has been in power in the state for a long time.
The term of Gujarat assembly ends on February 18 next year.
