Man chops live-in partner into 35 pieces, disposes them off across Delhi | Delhi News
NEW DELHI: Delhi police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his live-in partner, chopping her body into 35 pieces, and dumping them at various locations across Delhi.
The accused, identified as Aftab Ameen Poonawalla, had strangled 26 year-old Shradha on May 18. According to police, Poonawalla chopped her body into 35 pieces and bought a new fridge to store them and threw them at various locations in a period of 18 days. To avoid any suspicion, he used to leave the house with a body part in a polybag at 2 a.m.
The deceased, Shraddha, and Poonawalla were staying in a rented flat in south Delhi‘s Mehrauli area. Shradha worked with a call centre for a multinational company in Mumbai where she met Poonawalla. The two started dating and moved in together. However, her family did not approve of their relationship following which the couple eloped and came to Delhi.
As per police, the matter came to light after the girl’s father came to Delhi from Mumbai on November 8 and lodged a police complaint when he did not find anyone at the Mehrauli flat.
“We received a complaint from the victim’s father. We put the accused Poonawalla on surveillance and tracked his location. He was nabbed from his home,” said ADCP south Delhi Ankit Chauhan.
“Initially, Poonawalla tried to mislead the police by saying that Shraddha had left him. However, during further questioning, Poonawalla confessed to the crime and said that they often fought as Shraddha was pressurizing him for marriage,” added Chauhan.
A case has been registered against the accused under relevant sections of IPC including murder, and the police were further looking into it.
