Samajwadi Party fields Dimple Yadav for Mainpuri bypoll | Lucknow News
LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party on Thursday named former Kannauj MP Dimple Yadav as the party candidate for the Mainpuri Lok Sabha bypoll, necessitated by the death of her father-in-law and SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Wife of SP national president Akhilesh Yadav, Mulayam’s badi bahu has been an MP from Kannauj twice in the past. SP patriarch’s choti bahu Aparna Yadav had formally joined the BJP in the run-up to the 2022 assembly elections and is awaiting her electoral debut as a saffron party candidate.
Dimple Yadav’s name has come as a surprise for many in the political circles as well as the media since Tej Pratap Yadav’s name was doing the rounds for quite sometime now as the possible candidate to inherit Mulayam’s legacy for two reasons: Firstly, because Tej Pratap had won the 2014 bypoll from Mainpuri, after the seat was vacated by Mulayam to retain Azamgarh. Secondly, ever since Mulayam had taken ill since 2020, Tej Pratap was active as patriarch representative in the constituency.
Dimple’s name was however finalized after SP chief held a series of meetings with the party leaders and representatives of Yadav and Muslim communities in Mainpuri, elders in the Yadav clan and senior party leaders during his recent stops at Saifai on his way to Dholpur and back from Sunday onwards.
