Shubman Gill on song, slams second successive hundred | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: In-form Shubman Gill is on song as the opening batter slammed second successive hundred inside four days in the first ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Gill, whose previous century came against Sri Lanka on Sunday, has proved his worth again for the team’s opening slot. Gill’s century came in 87 balls with the help of 14 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Gill also became the fastest Indian to score 1000 ODI runs as he took only 19 innings to attain the milestone, surpassing Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan – who achieved it in 24 innings.

Overall, Gill is also the second best along with Imam-ul-Haq after Pakistan’s Fakhar Zaman who took 18 innings to score 1000 ODI runs.

Gill has also scored most runs in ODIs since the start of 2022 followed by Babar Azam.
Gill, who scored his first century against Zimbabwe, is the only batter in men’s ODIs from India to have an average of over 60 and a strike rate of more than 100.
