The top ranked T20I batter now became only the second and the first Indian player to score 1000 runs in the shortest format in a calendar year. Suryakumar achieved the milestone in the T20 World Cup match against Zimbabwe in Melbourne on Sunday.

Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan is the other player to have scored more than 1000 runs in a calendar year. He made 1326 runs in 26 innings in 2021.
