Telangana cops tow away SUV with AP CM’s sister inside, arrest her | India News

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad police on Tuesday towed away YSR Telangana Party leader and Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister YS Sharmila‘s SUV, with her in the driver’s seat. She was later arrested along with her supporters while she was en route to Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao’s camp office to protest against her vehicle being attacked by TRS workers in Warangal a day earlier.
Police officials produced her and six of her supporters before a local magistrate for judicial remand. Sharmila’s mother Vijayamma, who wanted to meet her daughter at the police station, was restrained from leaving her house in Banjara Hills’ Lotus Pond.
The drama started around 12.20pm when Sharmila left Lotus Pond to confront KCR. On Raj Bhavan Road she moved from the back seat of an SUV into the driver’s seat of the SUV damaged in Warangal when the cops intercepted her.
Police tried to convince Sharmila to open the SUV door but she did not respond. Instead, she gave telephonic interviews to TV channels while sitting in the car. “KCR’s henchmen attacked me and our vehicles while I was showcasing government failure,” she told reporters. “I was taking the damaged vehicles to the CM. This is not how you operate in a democratic society.” Even after reaching the police station, Sharmila did not step out of the car. Finally, police officials broke open the lock and arrested her.
Police were caught off-guard when Sharmila left the Lotus Pond house via the rear exit, used in the past by her brother Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. “Only Jagan uses that route. So we had not kept a watch there,” a police official said.
