Twitter starts laying off staff in India

NEW DELHI: Twitter has started the process to lay off employees in India as part of a global job cut ordered by Elon Musk to attain “economies of scale”.
The job cuts have been seen to be coming ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter. Musk completed his $44 billion purchase of Twitter on October 27.
“Lay-off has started. Some of my colleagues have received email notification regarding this,” a Twitter India employee told news agency PTI. Another source said the lay-offs have affected a “significant chunk” of the India team.
His tenure at Twitter started with the firing of CEO Parag Agrawal, legal executive Vijaya Gadde, chief financial officer Ned Segal and general counsel Sean Edgett.
In less than a week since Musk acquired the company, its top management appears to have almost entirely cleared out, through a mix of firings and resignations. Musk has also dissolved Twitter’s former board of directors.
Musk is said to have also brought in more than 50 engineers and employees from his other companies, including electric carmaker Tesla, to review the layoff lists.
